Mission Statement


  • The priority of the Alpena Symphony Orchestra is to share the beauty of orchestral music with the residents of Alpena and the surrounding community.


  • The orchestra board of directors and the symphony players are dedicated to providing high quality music of many genres to our patrons.

  • It is our policy to seek and to promote musical talent from the Alpena area. We hope to encourage and advance this talent by offering opportunities in orchestral, ensemble and solo instruction.


If you are interested in performing with our orchestra please contact us and share your information with our artistic committee and they will contact you.  We also encourage the next generation of orchestra members through our string school.

JIM VANEIZENGA

Meet Our Conductor

The Alpena Symphony Orchestra Conductor, Jim VanEizenga, has a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Western Michigan University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Music Education from Michigan State University. In addition to conducting the Alpena Symphony, Jim conducts the Gaylord Community Orchestra, and is Director of Orchestras at Novi High School in Novi, Michigan. Jim is also the orchestra pit conductor for Gaylord Community Productions. He has regularly participated in conducting symposiums, working with Kevin Miller, Kevin Noe, and Bruce Uchimura.


As a violist, Jim has performed with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra, Grosse Pointe Symphony Orchestra, Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Marquette Symphony Orchestra, Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra , Alpena Symphony Orchestra, and served as Principal Viola of the Ypsilanti Symphony. Jim teaches privately at the Gaylord Community Music School.
